FOUNDER · ELARIA LEADERSHIP
Nicola Meredith
CMgr FCMI
I founded Elaria to help people navigate the moments when working life asks them to lead, think and contribute differently.
My career has been spent leading people, developing services and building capability across organisations where the quality of leadership makes a real difference.
Over more than 25 years, I’ve worked across the voluntary sector, leading programmes, services and teams in the UK and internationally.
My experience includes senior leadership roles with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, The King’s Trust and the Royal British Legion, alongside developing leadership capability, mentoring managers and supporting people through changing responsibilities.
I’m a Chartered Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, and I bring practical experience of the challenges that arise when expertise, decision-making and responsibility become concentrated in too few people.
New roles. New responsibilities. New expectations.
Working life is full of moments that ask us to think, act and contribute differently.
Moving into leadership. Taking on greater responsibility. Developing others. Entering the workplace for the first time.
The knowledge and experience that brought us this far may not always be enough for what comes next.
Elaria exists to help people and organisations navigate these transitions, developing the judgement, ownership and capability to move forward.
From Expert to Enabler
Throughout my leadership career, I've seen highly capable people take on greater responsibility, only to discover that the strengths which made them successful can become the very things that hold them back.
The expert who always has the answer becomes the person everyone turns to. Decisions travel upwards. Ownership becomes concentrated. Leaders become increasingly busy, while the people around them have fewer opportunities to develop their own judgement and capability.
Through my own leadership practice and mentoring, I became increasingly interested in what it takes to make that shift: moving from being the person who solves the problem to the leader who enables others to think, decide and find their own way forward.
That thinking became my book, From Expert to Enabler, and helped shape Elaria's founding leadership offers.
But Elaria's purpose reaches beyond this one leadership transition. It is about recognising the moments when working life asks something different of us, and helping people and organisations develop the capability to meet what comes next.
